Our Philosophy

Millennium Child Development Center is dedicated to creating and nurturing a child-centered environment of support, success and safety for each child and family who become a part of our community of life long learners. We believe that each child is an individual with unique cognitive, social, emotional and physical strengths. These strengths can best be supported and developed by helping children to experience great success, solve problems, resolve conflicts and learn limits in a caring and stimulating environment. The environment is established through the development of experiences and activities that emerge from the exploring, problem solving and imaginative play of children.

At Millennium, teachers concentrate on making each child feel worthy, capable, and loved. A child’s experience at Millennium is a stepping stone for a life-long joy of learning that includes feelings of empowerment and a true feeling of “family” in their classroom and school.

Millennium’s practice is based on emergent curriculum where the children are the compass and barometer in determining major areas of interest. At the core of Emergent Curriculum is the recognition that learning emanates from the play, imagination, and interest of the children. Teachers provide information, props and opportunities that take maximum advantage of critical moments in which the child is actively asking questions and exploring issues.

Millennium encourages children to have divergent thinking, use peaceful conflict resolution, and be able to express their ideas, insights, thoughts and impressions in an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance. We also value attachments as an important component of learning and strive for close bonding between children, teachers and families from year to year.
